Lush Garden - Burr Ridge

For this Tudor revival in Burr Ridge, our client was an avid gardener who wanted to recreate the atmosphere of a classic European estate. The landscape is organized into distinct outdoor rooms, defined by boxwood hedges, gravel paths, and traditional brick edging.

A standout feature of the hardscape is the use of antique brick pavers, over a century old and salvaged from the streets of Downers Grove. These were laid in a deliberate pattern among irregular limestone to give the terrace an established, historic feel. To connect the upper terrace to the side yard, we constructed a new stone wall designed to look original to the home, incorporating steps with integrated plantings tucked between the stones.

The garden's focal points include a trough fountain sourced from Longshadow, along with carefully placed garden ornaments and an arbor with custom fencing. Beyond the aesthetics, we addressed significant drainage challenges by installing a dry creek bed. By surrounding it with pockets of perennials, we transformed a functional necessity into an attractive landscape feature. The planting palette leans on traditional favorites like Lamb’s ears, hydrangeas, and clematis, with Catmint, sedge, and creeping Jenny providing year-round texture.
